How do i install IIS and run ASP on Windows XP Professional?

Insert the Windows XP Professional CD-Rom into your CD-Rom Drive

From your Start Button, go to Settings, and Control Panel

In the Control Panel window select Add/Remove Programs

In the Add/Remove window select Add/Remove Windows Components

In the Wizard window check Internet Information Services, click OK

An Inetpub folder will be created on your harddrive

Open the Inetpub folder, and find a folder named wwwroot

Create a new folder, like "MyWeb", under wwwroot.

Use a text editor to write some ASP code, save the file as "test1.asp" in the "MyWeb" folder

Make sure your Web server is running - its status can be checked by going into the Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, and double-click the "IIS Manager" icon

Open your browser and type in "http://localhost/MyWeb/test1.asp", to view your first ASP page

How do i check my received mails in ASP.NET?

I was interested to make a full web based mail system i have a pop3 account i can send mail using ASp.NET but i need to know how to receive mails

How do i check my received mails in ASP.NET?
It is not that easy. may be contact a freelancer to code it for you at websites like http://getafreelnacer.com/
Reply:Sending is no problem, as you've probably discovered you only need to create a "message" in the proper format and pass it to a SMTP relay.

Receiving mail on the other hand requires complex issues supporting the necessary communication protocols (it's more of an ongoing 2-way "conversation" then a simple "send"), storage, routing, authorization, authenticaiton, more.

That's why typically people don't write the whole mail system but instead write a web frontend for an existing mail system which is not difficult to do if the chosen mailserver exposes the necessary hooks through an API.

Good Luck. There's opportunity in this, to create custom ways of looking at messages.

Need a website that can teach me how to do ASP login and register file with javascript language?
OK, how are you going to use ASP for login (i am assuming .Net platform) and still use Java. By Java, do you mean Javascript ??

For ASP, if you want to login i recommend going to Microsofts site, search for ASP.Net and download the MS.Net express edition for Web. In you will find a Login component that you can use to login. You can also find a file component that you can use to upload files from your harddrive to any designated location (i am assuming your doing all of it on your local pc)...
Reply:I don't like ASP, PHP is better

but about.com seems to have alot on website instructions

Reply:I don't know if this will help, but java.sun.com is pretty helpful if you're programming in Java. There's a section that can teach you all kinds of helpful stuff. I think it's the code samples section.

Databind a SQL query or stored procedure using the SqlDataSource and GridView controls. There are several good tutorials available online - using the aforementioned controls as keywords should get you started.

Hello

I m connecting radGrid or C1Grid in asp.net2 from the Page_Load(). Its not working properly. Problen is that its shows data at first page. But when I clicks on 2nd or else then its not shows data. Grid becomes plance.

But when I used ASP.Net SQLDatasource components and writes SQL Query here its work well. I dont know why? But I want to place a search option in the same page to search data from database.

I want to change query of Data grid during the run time in ASP.Net. How?
Not sure if I'm understanding the question correctly, but I'm gathering you want to run a query on post back? Your Page_Load action of the page should go like this:

private void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

{

if(IsPostBack)

{

//your code here

}

}

How to filter the datas in second combobox with respect to first combobox in datagrid in asp.net ?

How to filter the datas in second combobox with respect to first combobox in datagrid in asp.net ?
Since both dropDownLists are in the DataGird, this will complicate things a little bit.

Usually what you want do do is set the AutoPostBack property of the first DropDownList to true. You fill the Items of the 2nd DropDownList while handling the OnSelectedIndexChanged of the 1st DropDownList.

Since this is the case of a DataGrid, You have to add the first DropDownList in an %26lt;ItemTemplate%26gt; of an asp:TemplateColumn.

On the ItemDataBound event handler of the DataGrid, you should fill the Items of each DropDownList1 and wire the event OnSelectedIndexChanged of the DropDownList1 (which will be repeated for every record in your DataGrid).

The last Step is to define the event handler for the OnSelectedIndexChanged of DropDownList1.

My answer is a little bit vague since it doesn't contain actual code, but it draws the outline which you should follow to reach your goal.

Hope this helps.

I think u can go with a cookie or session.

What u have to do is when the user clicks next button, u have to store the current timer value in a cookie or in a session variable.

And When u r loading the page, u have to look for the cookie or the session variable. If it is there then start with the value there else start afresh.
Reply:wat u can do is whichever asp page calls this java script, put a hidden variable on that asp which stores the last value of this timer and when the jsp is called, the jsp should access this hidden variable instead of resetting the timer. i hope you got it.

Why all the computer programs like asp. html and so on are written in english why not other languages?

the title is my question i'm just curious can you give me a reason? thank you.

Why all the computer programs like asp. html and so on are written in english why not other languages?
The organizations that developed or sponsored the development of the language (such as AT%26amp;T, Bell Labs, etc.) or the university where it was developed (UCLA, Berkley, MIT, etc) was English and so the words selected for the language would have been English.

There are non-english programming languages, but the language of business is English, so if you want to have a computer language that is adopted by the most people, you need something that is understood by the most people, and that is portable to the most computer systems.

To give a good example, thanks to the "Office de la Langue Francaise" in Quebec, I have a copy of Microsoft Excel 2003 on my PC at work that I can barely use because I am familiar with the commands in English. Commands like "=SUM" has been converted to "=SOMME" on that version.

As a result, I am still using an old copy of Excel 97 on my local drive at work (and at my home office) because I am not accustomed to all the commands to use in French. I have 112 customers I deal with in North America with only 2 Quebec customers, but my using Excel in French is required to protect the language?

Sorry, got a little off track there...he he. (Note: pls don't flame me...I don't hate the French, I just hate the bureaucracy...)

Point is that the computer languages cater to the mass market. If you can meet the demand of the most people by developing a language that a large group of people will understand, odds are it will be used and if it is a good programming language, it will be successful.

By the way, in C++ and some other OOP languages, you can develop your own sets, modules and functions that are named however you like, so you can actually use alternate languages in those segments to make it easier to understand in a locale other than English.
Reply:ok it could be they were developed in english speaking countries
Reply:Because computer is mainly invented and developed by english speaking countries
Reply:Because English is the international language of business, just like French is the international language of diplomacy. Anyone from any country who wants to become a diplomat must learn French. Anyone who wants to do business internationally must learn English. Computer languages are based around business needs, and so they are developed in English.

Related to that is that the majority of major software developers are based in English-speaking countries, or in countries that have widely adopted the "English as business language" concept.

It's also somewhat easier because the English character set is very easy to display on modern computers, as it has an extremely limited alphabet. So it is easier to write code in a language that has a very small set of possible characters.
Reply:They can be made in other languages, or to display other languages.

If you can write an ASP programme in another language, then go ahead, I am sure someone will take it up; But these System programmes take a lot to develop.

I think the Main reason would be "Market Share"; if a Financier backing a project thought that only English speakers/readers/writer users will programme in this language, then thats where it goes to.

Its probably the reason that Open Source code is so popular now, and getting more so
Reply:You can use xml language to write and define your own tags. You can choose to put in those tabs whatever you like and use css to have your individual tags markup in whatever particular way you like. xml/xsl/xslt

To become an Asp.net programmer do you need to be a C# programmer?

To be employable as ASP.NET programmer do you need to be a very good C# programmer? Or just know the basics understanding that asp.net provides most of what you need? thanks.

To become an Asp.net programmer do you need to be a C# programmer?
You need to know programming - just knowing the language isn't enough. But you can be a top-level ASP.Net programmer without knowing any C# at all. (Could Shakespeare write in Spanish? Could Cervantes write in English?) I don't even ask prospective hires about C# (or ASP) - we're a php house on the web side.

Reply:I am a former chef and in the U.S and Canada it is the common size for grocery store or shops, in the U.K you have the Nestle/Carnation brand and the local store/shop brands like Tesco and ASDA.

The candy and food processing companys can purchase a larger 48 oz or 100 oz size for making candy, fudges, pies and in other large scale food processing situations, unless you have access to those facilitys or a friend who could get you one, the shop brand are the only one available, you may need 2 for your recipe, and use the rest in you coffee or tea, dilute it a bit it is strong.

ASP has no such function but the scripting language you're using should. You're probably using vbscript so you want to use FormatDateTime(date,format)

What would tell a fellow worker to learn first, PHP or ASP tha has no prior programming?

I think ASP. Without any prior programming experience like C+, PHP can be tough. ASP concepts can be learned easier. Thoughts?

What would tell a fellow worker to learn first, PHP or ASP tha has no prior programming?
I don't know ASP but I'm pretty proficient in PHP. Its really the only language I know and it didn't take me long to learn it. The only previous programming exprience I had was HTML which really isn't programming at all.

One of the things I like about PHP is the amount of support available online.

So, through my experience, I learned PHP pretty easily.
Reply:I purchased PHP and MySQL Web Development by Welling and Thomson and it is a great beginners book learning how to use both PHP and MySQL and put it all together. For any advanced questions I had I would turn to Google search and almost always find my answer there. Report It

Reply:You could call your University.
Reply:I recommend PHP. PHP can be installed on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer so that a developer can practice and test their scripts without having to upload them to a remote server.

It is open source, so it is free.

And PHP is growing bigger in popularity all the time.

It's also very easy to learn and most webhosting providers have PHP pre-installed on their servers, so it's very ubiquitous.
Reply:That depends upon the technology that your business uses. If you're in a primarily Microsoft shop, go with ASP. If you're mostly open source, go with PHP.

BTW, PHP is very simple, even for newbies. It stands for Personal Home Page and was initially developed to assist the neophyte in setting up a small personal web server on Apache. It's grown well beyond that scope of course, but is still a simple language to learn.
Reply:ASP!!!

its microsoft's man

It has to be the simplest of all

i have seen both and i am telling u ASP is easier than PHP and once u learn ASP ur people can master JSP in lesser time than they would do after PHP so thats a plus point
Reply:I personally think PHP is easier. I know it has better documentation and community support on the web since it is an open source project. However, doing fancier things that require modules, etc. can be difficult if you only have Windows based servers... But, for learning web technologies, PHP is the way to go.
Reply:definitely, php is easy to learn and you will gain experience which will be useful to learn ASP.

How do you pull data from multiple time periods in sql and asp?
I'm not sure what you have for tables, but maybe you can add a table or add to a table the following:

StudentID Spring Fall Summer

12345 _____ W ___P ____C

11223______P ___ P ____P

25256 _____ P___ C ___ P

The idea is when a warning is issued or a probation is added or cleared, it is stored in a look up table. Querying this table for consecutive semesters with 'P' would be simple

hope that helps

ASP/PHP when are they compiled on the server?

I heard from some people that each time a request comes the server will re-compile the ASP/PHP file, is it true? If it's not true can someone explain how it works?

ASP/PHP when are they compiled on the server?
ASP.NET is compiled and after the just-in-time compiler compiles it one time on the target machine, it will not be recompiled.

ASP and PHP are interpreted languages that are interpreted on the fly. They are never compiled.
Reply:not sure about ASP.. PHP is not compiled in server... It is simply interpreted line by line... only C, C++ are compiled languages...
Reply:PHP is not compiled, it is interpreted at run time. That being said it is possible to cache partial compilations to speed up processing.

Is it possible to test ASP code with Apache?

Normally, people with XP can run and test with IIS. I have Home Edition XP and you can't use IIS with this. I am running WAMP as my PHP server. Can I test it with this as long as I keep the %26lt;% %%26gt;.?

Is it possible to test ASP code with Apache?
Out of the box, no -- ASP needs to run in IIS, the MS Windows-based web server. Apache can run other server-side languages, such as PHP and ruby, but typically not ASP. I believe the first answerer was referring to configuring PHP to use ASP-style tags.

I haven't tried them, but there are alternatives that you could try if it's your only option: the Apache::ASP module [1], or Chili!Soft (now part of Sun) ASP [2].

Can anyone recommend any good ASP processing servers other than IIS?

To develop ASP Web applications and XML Web services, you need Internet Information Services (IIS) installed on your Windows 2000 or Windows XP or later computer. ASP Web applications and XML Web services require that both IIS and FrontPage Server Extensions be installed for local development of these project types. ASP.NET must also be installed and registered.

Certain project types and features in Visual Studio require that specific software components, which may be listed as optional in setup, must be installed before you can use that feature or project. Some of these components must be installed on the development computer, while others can be installed on a remote computer.

ASP.NET Web applications run on a Web server configured with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). However, you do not need to work directly with IIS. You can program IIS facilities using ASP.NET classes, and Visual Studio handles file management tasks such as creating IIS applications when needed, and providing ways for you to deploy your Web applications to IIS.

Can anyone recommend any good ASP processing servers other than IIS?
Look up the apache uniserver

http://www.uniformserver.com/

it's a stand alone server, you can run off any location on your computer, or off a flash drive
Reply:Since asp and .net applications are a Microsoft system, IIS is the only platform fully supporting it, and since they keep changing it, forcing upgrades continuously, there is unlikely to be really serious support for it on non MS servers. More common is php, which I find to be far more powerful and faster.

Any way to to keep my ASP coding safe on intranet server from being pirated, in my ASP / sql application?
ASP = Active Server Pages. the code you place in these pages is a mixture of front end javascript+HTML/XML and back end VBscript/.NET code.

There is no actual code (except your javascript, or generated javascript) that gets pushed to the web browser. Early ActiveX solutions sent an executable to the browser, but these are no longer used in modern development - unless it is a large bundle of extra browser capability (like Adobe Reader, Flash/Shockwave plugins, etc)

You ASP or ASP.NET code runs on the server via an IIS-controlled service. It is not visible, and cannot be pirated by anyone outside your firewall (the web clients). If you are saying your code is be hacked off this server, your security hole lies in the configuration of your network and IIS server, not in your programming paradigm.

That said, use safe coding practices. Read and understand how to configure your web server, and obey the rules of never using usernames/passwords or other private network information from within your javascript or HTML layers. If you're writing with ASP.NET (highly recommended) then most of these things are taken care of, except for the locking down of your network. That you have to do outside of whatever sites you're publishing.

Your LAN may be giving people access to your IIS machine. If this is the case, turn off the guest account and all other accounts for that machine. Do not develop on that machine, but simply on your own machine, then install the application when you're finished (prevents attacks from folks who know how to attach a debugger using the frontpage extensions to your IIS). On the IIS machine, save just one login for installing, and use anonymous access for to web site. Hope this helps.
Reply:If you run ASP on an IIS/Apache box, the end user can't see the ASP code, just the results of it.
Reply:As long as you use Windows, your stuff can be pirated by anyone connecting to your website in a fraction of a second.

In order to keep everything actually private, switch to a Linux machine and run Apache on the Linux machine. You will have unparalelled service and never have to worry about your stuff being pirated again.

Program the site in PHP for the best bet. Use Dreamweaver to do your site development.

How to upload my ASP.NET project and what configurations should i make to ASP.NET pages?

Currently I have an ASP.NET project working fine in localhost. I tried to upload it by FTP. After that when I run the project only HTML paes are coming as it is! When ASP.NET pages are requested it shows an error in the Web.config file. What configuration should i make to the project? Is the problem in my application or the server? FTP is the only access I have for the remote machine. In that I can also find AspClient folder also.. Tell me what to do with the confiuration to make aspx paes also viewed and to make it DB compatible?

How to upload my ASP.NET project and what configurations should i make to ASP.NET pages?
Check the help and FAQ for hosting ASP.NET apps on your web hosting company's web site, because sometimes they need certain settings in web.config for the site to work on their server.
Reply:I think that your application's folder was not created as an application under IIS.

You get this configuration error whenever your application's folder is not identified as an application by IIS.

Where did you upload your application to? Is it a shared host? you must have some kind of way to create your folder's application as an application under IIS.

This is how you do it locally.

1) Start IIS by typing Inetmgr in the run under programs in windows

2) Write click the folder where you application resides and choose properties

3) In the folder properties and under the Directory tab, click the Create button in the applications settings next to application name

If you are using a shared hosting solution, your host must provide you with a method to perform this action. Usually they provide control panels which allow such procedures.

Hope this helps.

How to Develop a ASP.NET application that interact with device attached to the Client side computer using .Dll

I want to develop such a web based ASP.NET application with VB.NET that when request on client's browser,provide interaction with any device installed on the client's computer through the use of .dll files and .lib files.

Because ASP.NET is a server side technology, all operations and events performed on server side. Now I want to develop a application that when run on client's browser can execute the API functions defined in .dll file resides on client's computer for interacting with device attached to client's computer.

If this is not possible with ASP.net , what else i needed to get my objective fulfilled .

How to Develop a ASP.NET application that interact with device attached to the Client side computer using .Dll
What device are you trying to interface with? Generally devices that provide input to the computer do it in a specific way. Bar Code readers (for example) provide input through the keyboard. The computer is not aware of them ususally, and doesn't care that they are there.

Your question is too open ended. Yes, it is possible ot interact with client side DLLs, but you have to know WHAT dll you're interacting with ahead of time, and there are some specific configuration things that have to be done.

Post some additional information that better defines your intent (what you are trying to do with this, what devices you want to interact with), and you can get a better answer. Any device for any purpose....well, the answer to that is easily NO.

Code to Make a counter of registered emails on my ASP home page using SQL?

I want to make a counter on my home page with ASP pulling from MS SQL based on the number of people registered as users.

Code to Make a counter of registered emails on my ASP home page using SQL?
Once again, I urge people to state WHICH VERSION of ASP?

In ASP.NET / VB, include System.Data and System.Data.SqlClient in your namespaces, and have a label on your page named lblCounter. Call the subroutine below in your Page_Load subroutine.

Also, in the code below, registered users table is the name of the table where you store your e-mail addresses for registered users.

Sub GetRegisteredUserCount()

Dim objConn As New SqlConnection( "connection string" )

Dim objCmd As New SqlCommand( "SELECT COUNT(*) AS totalmembers FROM registered users table" )

objConn.Open()

Dim objReader As SqlDataReader = objCmd.ExecuteReader()

objReader.Read()

lblCounter.Text = "There are " + FormatNumber( objReader( "totalmembers") + " registered users."

objConn.Close()

objCmd.Dispose()

objConn.Dispose()

End Sub

In ASP 3.0 VBScript:

%26lt;%

Dim objConn = Server.CreateObject( "ADODB.Connection" )

objConn.Open "your connection string"

Dim objRs= Server.CreateObject( "ADODB.Recordset" )

objRs.Open "SELECT COUNT(*) AS totalmembers FROM registered users table", objConn

Response.Write "There are " %26amp; objRs( "totalmembers") %26amp; " registered users."

objConn.Close()

Set objRs = Nothing

Set objConn = Nothing

Are ASP extendable batons legal to carry for self defense?

depends on where you are at-carry a cane-it is legal anywhere and can be very effective-pal

Are ASP extendable batons legal to carry for self defense?
The only people I see carry them are cops or in the movies. I would not recommend carrying anything you can eat.
Reply:There probably isn't a law in your state prohibiting you from carrying one, but... it is considered a dangerous weapon, so if it hidden on your person, you could be looking at Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Same thing if you have one hidden under the seat of your car.

Check you local laws for pepper spray, it is easier to carry and very effective.
Reply:not for self defense, but you can have it with you for arm and wrist therapy to build up your strength from a past injury or a reset of a broken bone, by using the device as a twirling baton!!!!!!

How to show the visitor counter number in my ASP.NET project???

thank you

How to show the visitor counter number in my ASP.NET project???
You should write code in your global.asax file.

Store the total number of visitors in an Application variable. Increment the value of this variable on each Session_Start event.

Hope this helps.

How can I read off the column headers of an uploaded Excel file in ASP.NET/C#?

I can only seem to read the 2nd row (data), but i need to dynamically pick off the header names since the spreadsheets won't be consistent. Thanks!

How can I read off the column headers of an uploaded Excel file in ASP.NET/C#?
Though it depends on how you are reading them, you should be able to access the column names through data[column_number].ColumnName
Reply:Make arrays with a loop you may have to do for each column to read all the data........to be honest you should just use access....

Whats the difference between HTML, PHP, ASP, XML, CSS, and what are their uses?

HTML - stands for Hypertext Markup Language. Web pages ware created with HTML. HTML "tags" are used to tell your browser how text should be displayed on your screen.

PHP - stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. This is script sitting in the web server. When request information from the server calling a php. The php will create HTML page based upon your request. This is why PHP is called server side scripting language.

ASP - stands for Active Server Page. Some purpose as PHP. This language has been developed by Microsoft.

XML - stands for eXtensible Markup Language. A common misunderstanding is that XML is newer version of HTML. Not true. HTML tells the browser how to display the text, whereas, XML is used to determine how data is being stored. We know that a persons name consists of a first name and a last name -- XML can be used to enforce that hierarchy of data.

CSS - stands for Cascaded Style Sheet. CSS is modifies HTML or XML to apply a style to the displayed page.

This is a very simplistic explanation. Search the internet to find more about them.

Whats the difference between HTML, PHP, ASP, XML, CSS, and what are their uses?
who really knows
Reply:This is really a broad question, but the common theme for all of these is web programming:

1. Hypertext Markup Language

2. Hypertext Preprocessor

3. Active Server Pages

4. Extensible Markup Language

5. Cascading Style Sheets
Reply:HTML is hyper text markup language. HTML was designed to display data and to focus on how data looks.

PHP (recursive acronym for "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor") is a widely-used Open Source general-purpose server side scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML

ASP is Active server pages widely used as Server side scripting language.

XML is Extensible Markup Language. XML was designed to describe data and to focus on what data is.

CSS is Cascading Style Sheets control the style and layout of multiple Web pages all at once.
Reply:ASP, a specification for a dynamically created Web page with a .ASP extension that utilizes ActiveX scripting -- usually VB Script or Jscript code.

ASPs are similar to CGI scripts, but they enable Visual Basic programmers to work with familiar tools.

PHP can perform any task that any CGI program can do, but its strength lies in its compatibility with many types of databases. Also, PHP can talk across networks using IMAP, SNMP, NNTP, POP3, or HTTP.

HTML, protocol used by the World Wide Web. HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands.

XML, allows designers to create their own customized tags, enabling the definition, transmission, validation, and interpretation of data between applications and between organizations.

CSS, a new feature being added to HTML that gives both Web site developers and users more control over how pages are displayed. With CSS, designers and users can create style sheets that define how different elements, such as headers and links, appear.

.PHP, .ASP, .XML, PERL, CGI, javascript ... Where do I start and is it necessary to know them all?

I already know HTML. I know flash and understand actionscript, but could not make anything fancy without any tutorials at the moment. I have used XML in my flash slideshow I made once. there are all these other languages, as far as I know, CGI and ASP and PERL do basically the same thing.. so which should I learn.. do i need to know them all... what is PHP? aghh... I need help =( I also want to learn C++. Object oriented whatever that means ( i know u can make games in it). Is flash object oriented too? AGHHH

my school doesnt even teach any programming. Blah. where can I learn it without wastin all my cash. im poor. GAH.

.PHP, .ASP, .XML, PERL, CGI, javascript ... Where do I start and is it necessary to know them all?
"CGI and ASP and PERL do basically the same thing."

Not quite. CGI is a standard of sorts, that allows programs to be run by webservers. You can have CGI used by any programming language that supports it: Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP, even C++ if you do some exotic programming.

ASP (I'll talk about ASP.NET actually) is really a platform for writing dynamic websites/web applications. Complex websites have their HTML autogenerated, and you can use ASP (typically by using a .NET language like C# or VB.NET) for a programming language.

Perl is a general purpose language. It's extremely useful for text manipulations, but because it is basically a very powerful and vast language. That makes it suitable for everything from basic scripts to whole web applications. You typically use Perl for web applications as a CGI script or with mod_perl (for Apache webservers). Perl is comparable to C# in that they are programming languages.

"what is PHP?"

Another server side programming language. Unlike C#, or Perl, it is not intended to be used outside of web programming. It's very popular especially because it is both free and has a very low barrier of entry.

"do i need to know them all"

No. You need *a* server side language to write web applications. Note my use of the singular in language. You may use more than one in very powerful/commercial programs, but to start with you can rely on just one.

"so which should I learn."

Take a good stock of web programming languages. You get PHP, Java, ASP.NET (C#, VB.NET), Perl, Python, and Ruby. I recommend Python or Ruby because they are high level languages, are general purpose languages, are mainstream, and have a low barrier to entry. PHP comes next as my recommendation, or perhaps C#/ASP.NET.

"I also want to learn C++"

C++ is a general purpose programming language. It's more suitable for lower level/systems programming tasks. It's very powerful, and it can be used to write everything from operating systems to a webserver or modules for a webserver. It's used to write quite a bit of programs used on your computers. It's a compact language, but very difficult to master.

"Object oriented whatever that means ( i know u can make games in it)"

Object oriented just reflects a programming paradigm. It's no magic bullet or one size fits all solution.

"Is flash object oriented too?"

I don't recall, but I think it is to some extent. Do you have the notion of classes and objects (I think you do)? Then you have the ideas of object oriented programming.

"Blah. where can I learn it without wastin all my cash"

Google. Please.

If you're going for C++, get a book from ACCU's review list (http://accu.org/index.php/book_reviews?u... ). I recommend C++ Primer by Stanley Lippman or Accelerated C++ by Koenig.

If you're going for Python: http://python.org/ . Really spend some time there, as they have quite a bit of documentation and resources.

PHP: http://php.net/

Google for the other programming languages...
Reply:HTML(which you know) and XML is a must, then I would recommend learning either or of ASP or PHP, My preference being PHP. JS would defiantly be a nice plus, but its not as needed as the rest for web dev.

C++ is not flash based, and a great codding language to learn. Some people prefer Visual Basic .NET, but I would go with C++ Myself.

A great place to learn all kinds of different computer languages is at http://w3schools.com

Edit: -Oh, I would also learn how to create and use CSS stylesheets if you don't already know.
Reply:http://www.w3schools.com

Here is a good place to start. I tend to download open source web applications such as PHP-Nuke, osCommerce, or any scripted application. Try backwards engineering the programs. Be aware that there is a lot of trial and error. You will love your undo button when attempting to "teach" yourself any scripting language.

PHP-Nuke - http://www.phpnuke.org

osCommerce - http://www.oscommerce.com

HotScripts - http://www.hotscripts.com
Reply:I've got good news for you: you won't need ANY money to learn! The net has so many tutorials and free resources these days that you should get by fine without spending any cash.

You don't need to learn all of the languages you mentioned- although I guess it depends on what you want out of it. In my opinion it's better to know a lot about one language than a little about many, to start with at least. Then once you know a language like the back of your hand it's generally pretty easy and quicker to learn others.

I'm not really an expert but from what I gather the best technologies to get into right now are Java and .NET (money-wise at least), but if you're just starting out then I recommend having a go with PHP (can still be pretty well paid)- it's pretty simple to use and very powerful, and there are thousands of tutorials and free scripts on the net because it's become so popular.

You won't even need a website to test your scripts if you set up your computer with the right software. If you go for PHP, a good package to use is WAMP (www.wampserver.com). This will install all the things you'll need to run PHP scripts locally on your PC. There's also a version for the Mac call MAMP.

(that reminds me, you really should look into learning a database language too- mysql is very good and free, and is also included with WAMP and MAMP)

As far as Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) goes, it's just a method of coding that is seen as very efficient to maintain. PHP5 is fully OOP capable so you'd do good to learn this way of programming, especially if you intend to move over to Java which requires it.

I hope that's of some help to you.

For this you will have to study $_SERVER array in PHP. And also string related functions. I can provide you a sample code but I am not doing this because, you should try firs. Just try to explore $_SERVER array and string related functions in PHP. If you get any problem, do ask it.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

How to get the text from asp:textbox to normal input type:text?

i have a asp:textbox which has strings for its value

i want to copy that string to a normal

textbox input type:text value=....

plz help and do give me somewhat a good code instead of just a single line of code

How to get the text from asp:textbox to normal input type:text?
It sounds like you have a separate %26lt;input type="text" /%26gt; element and that you want to copy the value of your ASP.NET textbox.

You can do this with some javascript, but the trick is getting the Id of the ASP.NET textbox which may vary depending on which parent container is used to drop it on the page (for instance if you have this code in a usercontrol that is reused).

%26lt;asp:TextBox id="myTextBox" Text="asdf" runat="server"%26gt;

%26lt;input id="myInput" type="text"%26gt;

%26lt;script type="text/javascript"%26gt;

function copyValue()

{

var myTextBox = document.getElementById('%26lt;%= this.myTextBox.ClientID%%26gt;');

var myInput = document.getElementById('myInput');

myInput.value = myTextBox.value;

}

%26lt;/script%26gt;

What is the method to make a database file in asp.net ?

please send me a example file with cording.

What is the method to make a database file in asp.net ?
To actually make a database?

Well to literally make a database from nothing you would have to import a reference to the COM type library ADOX:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defaul...

See the ADOX Code Examples in Visual Basic | Create Method for code, which you will have to modify to the language changes that have taken place in vb.net (like dropping Set statements, etc.)

If this style of programming is too advanced for you, you can work with ADO.Net datasets to store XML data - the DataView object can give you SQL like sorts and filters.

The DataSet has a ReadXml method that can open an XML file as this kind of quasi database from the file system. And the DataSet has a WriteXml method that allows you to save the DataSet out to a file system.

I'm not going to actually sit and spend a half hour working up code for you and debugging it to see if it works. But the basic idea goes kind of like this:

DataSet ds = new DataSet("MyDoc");

DataTable dt = new DataTable(""myTable");

ds.Tables.Add(dt);

dt.Columns.Add("FirstName");

dt.Columns.Add("LastName");

//lets get at least one record in

DataRow dr = dt.NewRow();

dr["FirstName"] = "Fred";

dr["LastName"] = "Flinstone";

dt.Rows.Add(dr);

//now save our 'database'

ds.WriteXml(@"c:\temp\MyNewDatabase.xm...

//read it back in

ds.ReadXml(@"c:\temp\MyNewDatabase.xml...

The bottom code is all messed up by Yahoo. Sorry, nothing I can do about that...

How can I make my site interactive with asp or php? Pl give me practical help.?

I tried to read and study a lot but there is no help. Can someone help me.

How can I make my site interactive with asp or php? Pl give me practical help.?
asp, php, coldfusion, and so forth are languages that let you interact with a database from inside your website. They require a few things:

* They are seperate software packages that you need (on your computer) to do development.

* They require that your web hoast supports this software, too. Otherwise, it won't work for your visitors.

* They require that you include extra code in your webpages to use this software

* They require that you set up a database

All of this is not trivial. It's real programming! If you want to experiment with it, php is free (the others are not). You can get started here: http://nl3.php.net/
Reply:What's meaning of interactive? Readers are always reading your sites if they have interest in the information you site provides.

People come to your sites to look for useful things, not watching a movie or dance. Save the gimmicks.
Reply:1st U must know HTML well, and know the basic information about web developing, E.G: the meaning of client side or server side etc. Then u should decide which one(ASP or PHP) u wanna learn. PHP is just like a complete programming language! So U'd better know the basic structures in computer programming, For/Do/While/If blocks etc. If u wanna learn ASP, U'd better know VB (VBScript) or maybe JavaScript well, So u cn do anything u want then!... If u know C/C++ I suggest u to learn PHP too.

ANYWAYS, I think you shoud 1st try to learn the basic things like HTML and a lil bit scripting, Try to make pages, try to use CSS and HTML together and when u learned it well, u cn easily use PHP and HTML or ASP and HTML together!...
Reply:You're going to need to do a lot of studying I could look into php if I were you. It's simple to learn and is very useful.

As for displaying columns dynamically, you write this logic in the ItemDataBound event handler of the relevant repeater. Usually columns are displayed using ASP.NET controls inside %26lt;ItemTemplate%26gt;%26lt;/ItemTemplate%26gt; of your repeater.

Hope this helps.

How to Implement Role-Based Security with Forms-Based Authentication in Your ASP.NET Application?

Because forms users usually are not Microsoft Windows users, they do not have any roles associated with them by default. Thus, you must attach the roles of the authenticating user to that user's identity so that you can implement the role-based security inside your code.

Use the sample code in this section to implement role-based security in your application. This sample code assigns pre-specified roles to the authenticating user. Depending how you store your user data, you can implement your own method to retrieve the roles for that authenticated user and attach those roles to the authenticating user's identity, which is illustrated in the sample code to follow.

How to Implement Role-Based Security with Forms-Based Authentication in Your ASP.NET Application?
you first have to use ASP.NET website configuration. You'll be directed to a browser based configuration for your site. Click on the enable roles button, and click on the manage roles to add/modify/delete roles.

You can also assign users to roles in the configuration window.

Did Cleopatra really use the asp to kill her?

becuase on a tv detective forensic show, they said that may have been unlikely that the snake could have killed her and her 2 friends/ servant girls.....That means at that momnet of her death, the snake had to bite her and the others all at the right time place .................what is the truth?

Did anyone else watch that show and what do you think?? Thanks

Did Cleopatra really use the asp to kill her?
I haven't watched the show, but

Antony committed suicide, having been told Cleopatra was dead. According to the doctor Olympus (an eye-witness), he was brought to Cleopatra's tomb and died in her arms.

On November 30, Cleopatra also died by snakebite. The ancient sources generally agree that she had two asps hidden in a fig basket so as she was eating she would never know when she would die. Her two handmaidens died with her.
Reply:i did watch the show you are talking about.

I don't believe that she killed her self there wasn't enough venom from one snake and in the time it takes for the venom to affect all of them someone would have made it to Cleopatra from the suicide letter she wrote.

i don't think we can ever really know the truth but i do not think a women like her would have killed herself it took allot for her to get where she was.
Reply:Britannica says "possibly", Wikipedia says "allegedly".

"When Octavian visited her, Cleopatra tried yet once again to captivate the leading Roman. She used all her arts; she failed. She knew, then, that Octavian intended that she and her children should adorn his triumph. Rather than be dragged through the city in which she had been borne as a queen, she killed herself, possibly by means of an asp, symbol of divine royalty. Octavian, on receiving her letter asking that she might be buried with Antony, sent messengers posthaste. "The messengers," Plutarch says, "came at full speed, and found the guards apprehensive of nothing; but on opening the doors they saw her stone dead, lying upon a bed of gold, set out in all her royal ornaments." "

"Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator", Encyclopædia Britannica CD 2000

"It is said that Cleopatra took her own life on November 30, 30 BC, allegedly by means of an asp."

Reply:I didn't see the show but I know that some historians think that it was either asp or poison. Remember that the Greeks used Hemlock either as punishment or suicide and she was Greek.

And even if she had chosen asp the two handmaiden could still drink poison.

The fact that she suicided is not contested. Romans were not known for their tenderness, her life could have finished very uglily and she knew it.

I receive "insufficient permission/asp message why?

I have cookies enabled, I have listed site on trusted sites, I think--I have java on. I am very frustrated. The site I want to be in registers me, but does not work properly. I have tried registering in a similar site, and it told me there was a problem. I have been trying to solve this for over a month. I know about deleting history cookies etc. Not the problem. Any suggestions out there? I don't even see similar questions out there regarding insufficient permission---help losing my mind. Thanks

Is it possible to administer users from an web page in ASP.NET?

I want to create a page "administration.aspx", similar to the ASP.NET web site configuration tool, I mean, a page where I (as administrator) could update or delete users registered on my site....is it possible? If so, how? Thanks.

Is it possible to administer users from an web page in ASP.NET?
Yes, there are a number of ways to do this.

Probably the easiest is to use the built-in forms authentication control that comes in ASP.NET 2.0.

http://www.asp.net/learn/videos/view.asp...

(The tutorial above is a demo to create a customer login system, but you can easily mod it to do what you want).

A more advanced solution is to use membership and roles. That's probably overkill for what you want, however:

Finally, this is an excellent tutorial on forms-based authentication:

Reply:Well dude that's hard to explain over yahoo answers but i advise you to read some articles of really good developers try this website: www.developerfusion.co.uk

Good luck
Reply:It really depends more on how you've setup your authentication scheme on what you can get away with.

You can restrict users access based upon their login and those restrictions can be managed from an administration page.

Checkbox.enabled = true

Checkbox.enabled = false
Reply:I have not dabbled in vbscript a lot but I have done a fair amount of javascript

function disableCheckbox()

chkbox.disable = true // this disables your checkbox

chkbox.diable = false //this enables your checkbox

}

How to select from database with specific where condition in ASP.NET?

Here is code

%26lt;asp:SqlDataSource

id="SqlDataSource1"

runat="server"

ProviderName="System.Data.Odbc"

DataSourceMode="DataSet"

ConnectionString="dsn=yada;uid=root;pwd=...

SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM catalog WHERE Song_Type='Pop'"%26gt;

%26lt;/asp:SqlDataSource%26gt;

Right now all it does is select * from that table where the song type is "Pop" how can I pass a session variable to it so that it selects anything where the value equals to a session variable?

How to select from database with specific where condition in ASP.NET?
try w3schools.com n search for asp.net it will help u alot n here's another code for classic asp but that example for my website u can change it to suit urs of course in the previous page u will refer to a new page n write in that new page this code n don forget to change the table name to be urs n the attributes

response.redirect("tynote.asp")

%%26gt;

%26lt;% %%26gt;

%26lt;/body%26gt;
Reply:You probably don't want to use session variables, but this should work:

string SQL = "";

string SongType = "";

SongType = Session["SongType"].ToString();

SQL = String.Format("SELECT * FROM Catalog WHERE Song_Type = '{0}' ", SongType);

Then, simply set the SQL string variable as your SelectCommand parameter.

ASP Experts: How to prevent duplicate registration?

I'm looking for if else statement whereby they check if the employee id has been registered.

If id has been found, error msg

else redirect to other page

It would be nice if you could provide the skeleton codes.

ASP Experts: How to prevent duplicate registration?
In my previous reply I gave you some links on where to get started and find code examples.

For this case try the following. Make an HTML textbox with name "userid". Then in the vbscript part:

%26lt;%

strID = Request.Form("userID")

Set rs = dbConn.Execute ("select 1 from registration where employeeID = "

%26amp; strID

)

if not rs.EOF then

response.write("error message%26lt;br%26gt;")

else

response.redirect("otherpage.asp")

end if

%%26gt;

This should get you started.
Reply:well its not hard... just think it through...

its just a feild check...

(not code below)

%26lt;format input for database entry%26gt;

%26lt;open database%26gt;

IF %26lt;check current userID set against input userID%26gt; FALSE

%26lt;process input%26gt;

IF %26lt;%26lt;check database updated properly%26gt;%26gt; FLASE

%26lt;return data update error%26gt;

ELSE

%26lt;Redirect to sucess%26gt;

END IF

ELSE

%26lt;return error%26gt;

%26lt;redirct to error page%26gt;

END IF

%26lt;Disconnect Data%26gt;

a structure like that would work all you need to do is use the current database BEFORE you send it an update command... that way no changes will be commited before your checks.

I paid $200 a year ago for a fake licensee.I never received it.Any money sent over western union is a scam.This is a scam.They want your money and they won't provide the product.

Just pull a "hey mister!" like normal kids do!
Reply:Dont send your money to these companies...Most of them are scams I lost $200 sending money to an overseas site and never heard from em...your best bet is using a friend who looks a bit like you. When you buy the beer, dont get nervous and dont show them the ID unless they ask. :)
Reply:well if you actually get it, it may, but most sites in the end just steal and rip you off.

just ask somebosy to buy it for you, who needs a couple bucks, or in your case a coupkle of euro's.
